Knicks’ Shumpert Supporting the Let’s Move Initiative

by Rachel Baker on August 17, 2013

There’s an article over on ESPN NY discussing the Knicks’ guard Iman Shumpert and his involvement with Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move hip-hop album. Shump’s track will be titled “Pass the Rock” and there’s a snippet of the song linked in the article.

While Dwayne Wade is involved with President Barack Obama’s Fatherhood and Mentoring Initiative, Shumpert is part of first lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! Active Schools initiative, which aims to solve the epidemic of childhood obesity.

But Shumpert isn’t simply a spokesperson for Let’s Move! to support Michelle Obama, who is also from Chicago. He’s a rapper on her new hip-hop album that features 19 songs, which through a collaboration between the Partnership for a Healthier America and Hip-Hop Public Health, aims to “get your whole family moving to the beat.” Some of the other high-profile hip-hop and R&B artists include Run-D.M.C, Doug E. Fresh, Ashanti and Monifah.
