Mets’ Matt Harvey To DL With Elbow Injury

by Rachel Baker on August 26, 2013

Mets ace Matt Harvey has a partially torn UCL in his pitching elbow and will be placed on the DL. Tommy John surgery to replace the elbow ligament is possible and usually indicated in tears of more than 33%. If surgery is required, it’s likely Harvey will miss most if not all of the 2014 season as well.

Harvey was sent Monday morning to the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan after complaining of fatigue and mentioning discomfort following a 102-pitch start Saturday against the Detroit Tigers. As part of that exam, Dr. David Altchek had Harvey undergo an MRI that revealed the tear.
